Administrator (Speaker 2) said the donation was offered and the donor agreed to underwrite the scoreboard, but the district’s attorney and liability insurer advised that licensed, bonded contractors should perform any installation to preserve warranties and manage risk.
Concerns included whether volunteers’ unlicensed work would void product warranties, who would pay for incidental electrical or pole upgrades, and whether the lease on the football field placed additional legal considerations on the district. Trustees asked administration to obtain itemized estimates for installation and any required structural work. One trustee said the donation had “good intent” but needed to be formalized through the school to avoid confusion.
The motion the board passed accepts the donation contingent on professional installation and that no district funds be used for installation or follow‑up costs. Trustees directed administration to coordinate with the donor, Booster Club and legal counsel to secure written agreements, an itemized cost estimate and confirmation that the five‑year warranty will transfer to the district. The vote carried on a voice vote with those conditions in the motion.
