Trust weighs postcards, resource fair and using $8,822 CPC grant for outreach
Summary
Members reviewed two outreach postcard designs, debated audience and tone (recruiting board members vs. broader "Livable Orleans" messaging), discussed direct-mail costs (estimated $3,000–$3,800) and considered using an FY'22 CPC grant balance of $8,822 to pay for postcards, table banners and other outreach collateral for a Sept. housing resource fair.

The trust reviewed postcard designs developed by a summer intern and discussed how best to use outreach materials to recruit volunteers, inform residents about programs, and support a Sept. housing resource fair.
Members were divided on tone: some preferred a direct "call to action" aimed at recruiting trust members and volunteers, while others favored a broader "Livable Orleans" message intended to draw general community interest in the town’s housing goals. Marketing suggestions included larger QR codes, simpler bullet points, and limiting copy for handouts at farmers markets or town events.
Elizabeth said staff will gather quotes for a townwide mailer and that a small direct-mail campaign historically produces the biggest response. Staff estimated a townwide mailer could run roughly $3,000–$3,800, depending on scope and distribution.
Jennifer and staff also reminded the board of an FY'22 Community Preservation Committee (CPC) grant restricted to "public education materials about community housing" with a remaining balance of $8,822 that could be encumbered for postcards, banners or outreach events. Members suggested focusing on a concise call to action and ensuring systems are in place to follow up with people who respond.
The trust asked staff to obtain formal quotes, explore targeted mailing lists (year-round residents and property owners), and return with a recommended dissemination plan and budget.
