At the Hollis Select Board meeting on July 15, 2026, outgoing chair Mike Harnois announced he was stepping down as chair effective upon the election of his successor, saying the newly elected majority had chosen a different direction for the town. "I am tonight stepping down as chair of the Hollis select board, effective upon the election of my successor," Harnois said.
Board member Roger Hicks moved to accept Harnois’s resignation; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Jack Regala nominated Roger Hicks to serve as chair and the board voted to elect Hicks. After the vote Harnois briefly recessed the meeting while the board reconfigured and Hicks assumed the chair role.
Harnois said he would continue to serve the remainder of his term as a regular board member and explained his reason for stepping down: he told the board that the role of chair should be held by someone who shares the board’s direction. "The residents of Hollis deserve to see clearly who is setting the direction of this town," he said.
Butch Gannett, a resident during public comment, praised Harnois’s service and registered disappointment with how the board handled the resignation process: "Mike, you did a great job serving the board and serving the town... I'm still disappointed in the fact that... nobody said anything until they were almost forced into it." The board did not take additional formal action beyond accepting the resignation and electing Hicks.
The meeting resumed under Chair Roger Hicks, who led the remainder of the agenda.
