Select Board discusses sunsetting inactive committees, wants full replacement packages before action

The board held a public discussion about whether to sunset several town committees and how to structure replacements.

Staff member outlined a list of currently inactive bodies — including the Main Street Historic District Study Commission, Long Range Capital Planning Committee, Personnel Advisory Board and others — and recommended that some be sunshotted while other bodies be replaced or rechartered. "We're gonna hold out on all of them essentially until there's a replacement recommendation for something that goes with it so that it's a full package," staff member said, urging the board to act only when staff can present a researched memo and suggested successor bodies.

Members noted the Historic Commission still plans to present a report and recommended waiting for that final presentation before ending the commission's work. The board agreed that formal sunsetting should be accompanied by replacement recommendations, staff research and a clear rationale so Select Board action would be taken as part of a full package, rather than immediately.
