Director reports job fair, survey and maps; Deering Park PUD set for April 22 vote

Samantha, the city's director of economic development, said the Southeast Solution Manufacturing & Technology Coalition job fair is set for April 1 at the Brandon Center and that "so far, we I think we have already 30 different businesses already signed up for it." She said last year's job fair attracted about 300 applicants and encouraged members to share flyers and registration links.
On outreach and data, Samantha reported the business survey had about 34 responses and asked members to help boost participation to the target of "a couple 100 responses" before the end of the month. She also said the city newsletter and development-capital project maps are available on the city website and that the parking-and-mobility director position has been posted.
On Deering Park, Samantha said the PUD hearing and vote are scheduled for April 22: "It's April 22, I believe, is the date certain." Members discussed how Deering Park differs from other planned live-work-play developments and flagged potential infrastructure competition among neighboring jurisdictions; one committee member cautioned that multiple large projects could strain school, police and fire services and urged careful long-term planning.
The task force also received member updates on local business reopenings and community events; a member reported Ocean Breeze reopened and another described vendor-placement problems at a recent art festival. The meeting closed with staff requests that members take the survey, share accurate information in their networks and support strategic-plan items being developed by city leadership. The task force adjourned at about 9:22 a.m.
