Abbeville City Council considered a proposal June 15 to permit a limited number of alcohol vendors at city-run festivals and events but the motion failed 6-2.
Councilmember Edwards moved the proposal and Councilmember Stanley Marshall seconded. According to the meeting record, Mayor Pro Tem A. Faye Thomas and Councilmembers John Sutherland, James Jackson, Matthew H. Gambrell, Benji Greeson and Christopher R. Crawford opposed the motion; the motion therefore did not carry.
The council did not adopt alternative language or direct staff to return with a revised policy during the June 15 meeting. No public comment on the motion is recorded in the meeting minutes. The practical effect is that the city's existing rules remained in place and no new approvals for alcohol vendors at festivals were authorized.
