Fire department representatives said the trailer is used for demonstrations to elementary and high-school students, industry partners and adult learners and can simulate scenarios including structure fires and weather-related emergencies. Belfry’s fire chief, identified in the record as Nea Jackson, said the trailer had been used widely before the pandemic and that volunteers continue to provide emergency services countywide.
Judge Jones framed the upgrade as a public-safety measure: "If it saves one life, particularly children, then it's worth it," he told the court. The purchase price quoted from a source contract was $79,225; the department negotiated the price down to $70,000, which the court approved and authorized the treasurer to pay by roll call.
County staff said the trailer upgrade addresses nonfunctional props and brings the unit up to modern standards to support school and community training.
