Board approves resolutions, contracts and funding releases including $525,000 for volunteer fire departments

The North Huntingdon Township Board of Commissioners approved a slate of routine resolutions, contracts and administrative measures during its July 15, 2026 meeting.
Key actions the board approved included advertising three zoning-ordinance amendments (proposed Ordinances 2322, 2323 and 2324) to add a use category for CBD/tobacco/vape shops, to define glare and set exterior lighting standards, and to add definitions for accessory structures and zoning permits (including fence-height provisions). The solicitor noted clerical corrections would be made before advertising.
The board approved the June check register and budget items, agreed to transfer a restaurant liquor license into North Huntingdon (Resolution No. 115), and adopted the Westmoreland County 2025 Hazard Mitigation Plan (Resolution No. 116). It also adopted procedures for surplus vehicles (Res. 117) and established a fire-service-feasibility-study committee (Res. 118) with expectations about meeting schedules and public notice.
On funding, the board authorized the release of $525,000 in fire-tax proceeds to be distributed equally among the township’s seven volunteer fire departments (about $75,000 each). The board approved Pay Application No. 1 ($19,250) for the 2026 seal-coat program and authorized advertising bids for the 2026 stormwater-ponds improvement project.
The board approved an agreement for on-call commercial building plan reviews (term through Dec. 31, 2026) and approved entering a contract with the Allegheny League of Municipalities for police-chief search services. A request from Saint Agnes Church to sell alcohol at its August bazaar was approved by a 6–1 vote after one member said they would oppose alcohol at a church event.
Several personnel, board-policy and administrative items also passed by voice or roll-call votes, including adopting meeting quorum and volunteer policies and approving zoning-hearing-board appointments following a resignation.
