Ridgway tables Colorado Girl Coffee tavern liquor-license application after neighbor concerns

The Ridgway Town Council on Jan. 14 tabled a tavern liquor-license application from Colorado Girl Coffee LLC for the leased premises at 620 Clinton Street, moving the decision to the February meeting.
Town Clerk summarized the application process and said the applicant, Matthew Beyer, is requesting on-site alcohol service including use of the north-side sidewalk for outdoor consumption. The clerk also noted the council had received an email from Mary Menz expressing concerns about the applicant’s operation of other liquor-licensed businesses.
Several residents spoke during public comment. Nathan Locke asked whether the facility has “a proper sized kitchen,” expressed concerns about public safety and public health and asked about the number of liquor licenses a single owner may hold. Natalie Booth said she lives across the street and questioned the lack of a commercial kitchen and said she was concerned about maintaining licensed boundaries based on management at other locations where the applicant holds licenses. Dana Ivers, who identified herself as the applicant’s tenant, said Beyer will be offering “small venue special dinners.”
The Town Attorney advised the council that the decision must be made based on the specific location and facts for 620 Clinton Street, not on operations at other properties owned by the applicant. After questions from council members, Councilor Kroger moved to table the license application to the February meeting; Councilor Grambley seconded and the motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote.
Because the liquor-license request was continued, the related agenda item to issue a revocable encroachment permit allowing sidewalk seating and alcohol service at the address was continued to the February meeting as well. Councilors directed staff to ensure forthcoming materials address questions raised during the hearing about kitchen facilities, permitted uses during events and methods for monitoring sidewalk service.
