Converse County commissioners approve warrants, distribute Bankhead‑Jones funds, ratify grants and make multiple appointments

The Converse County Board of Commissioners cleared a slate of fiscal and administrative business on July 8, approving large warrants, grant awards, contracts, land‑use letters and appointments.
The board approved June Accounts Payable Warrants totaling $3,964,059.03. Commissioners also approved distribution of FY2026 Bankhead‑Jones revenue of $827,112.90, allocating 95% to the General Fund ($785,757.26) and 5% to schools ($41,355.64) as recommended by the County Treasurer. Vice‑Chairman Rick Grant moved both measures; motions carried.
Other actions taken included ratifying an additional $3,750 for asbestos testing with FDL Consulting LLC (contract total $166,962); approving a Memorandum of Understanding to use Glenrock High School as a backup polling location ($100 per election when used); accepting Augustine Construction LLC’s $21,030 quote to finish a Natural Bridge Park residence lower level; approving a two‑year dog kennel license for Station Boarding II, LLC; and approving a Roadway Use Agreement for four miles of CR13/Natural Bridge Road.
The board approved a Grant Award Agreement with the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security for $112,860 to purchase and install ballistic window film (term through Aug. 31, 2027). The motion carried with Commissioners Rick Grant and Trent Kaufman recorded in opposition. The board also approved a Prevention grant from the Wyoming Department of Public Health to Converse County for $262,230 through June 30, 2028.
Personnel and appointments included appointing Aaron Clausen as Converse County Fire Warden (two‑year term), reappointing Dr. Kyle Sokol to the Memorial Hospital of Converse County Board of Trustees for five years, and appointing Jake Roberts to the Converse County Fair Board for a three‑year term. The board approved a salary adjustment for a Sheriff’s Office detention deputy due to promotion.
Several permit and contract approvals were recorded as contingent upon payment or fulfillment of bond requirements (for example, land‑use letters to WYDEQ and Lumen right‑of‑way/bore permits for HDPE fiber lines). The board recessed twice and continued a number of project discussions (such as the Shooting Range Expansion and Animal Shelter drainage) for future consideration.
