Council selects 'Thriving Paramount' for Hay Tree Public Market community room

The council selected an interior wall art proposal for the Hay Tree Public Market community room, approving 'Thriving Paramount' by artist Adrian Littman.

Planning and Building Director John King presented three finalists chosen by the public art advisory committee and described how the 10' x ~8' piece would sit inside the community room (separated from the food hall and museum by walls and doors). King said the finalists were chosen for community value and potential outreach plans and that each artist had proposed a collaborative approach with the Paramount Historical Society and local groups.

Council members reviewed designs described as (1) overlapping image panels reflecting the city’s history, (2) a community‑woven tapestry called 'Woven Through Time,' and (3) a vintage‑map mosaic approach by a local mosaic team. After discussion about imagery and committee feedback, the council reached consensus: King announced, “We do. We're going with Thriving Paramount.” A motion was made and council approved the selection by roll call; staff will work with the public art advisory committee and the historical society to refine images and address minor design feedback (for example, a councilmember’s concern about a white graphic element).

The approved work is intended to complement the new market’s museum programming and involve community collaboration in finalizing elements.
