Public Works Director Adriana Figueroa explained the city’s longstanding process of placing unpaid trash bills as assessments on the county property tax roll. She said Athens, the service provider, sent multiple notices (including additional letters in April and May) and that affected property owners had opportunities to pay. At the time of the report there were 257 delinquent accounts, and residents can make payments through July 31; after that date the list will be submitted to the county for processing.
The council opened the hearing for public testimony; no one spoke for or against the assessments either in person or remotely. A councilmember moved to close the public hearing and then moved to authorize submission of the list; roll call affirmed the motion and the city manager was authorized to submit the updated list after July 31.
