County board rehired deputy; sheriff reports 14 inmates and seeks USDA grant

The Richardson County Board of Commissioners on May 6 authorized the rehiring of Clinton Stonebarger as a deputy and approved the use of a patrol vehicle for travel to his residence outside the county within a 10-mile limit.
Sheriff Hardesty told the board the county jail was holding 14 inmates at the time of the meeting and said the department is preparing an application for a USDA grant of about $50,000. "There are 14 inmates being held in the jail at this time," Hardesty reported.
Commissioner Rick Karas moved to re-hire Stonebarger and to allow vehicle use for the deputy’s commute; Campbell seconded. The motion passed by roll-call vote (Karas-aye, Campbell-aye, Caverzagie-aye).
The minutes record that a quote to repair sally-port garage doors was received and approved, but they do not record the completed dollar figure. The sheriff’s report and the grant application were presented as informational; no board direction about the grant application was recorded in the minutes.
The board adjourned at 11:25 a.m. and will meet again May 13, 2026.
