The Middletown Inland Wetlands and Watercourse Agency accepted two city‑related items for further review. The agency agreed to set a public hearing for a proposed multi‑use trail from Kaplan Drive to Tuttle Road on March 4 and accepted for review a Newfield Street applicant’s request for a temporary 20‑foot construction access across a narrow wetland band to reach Phase 2 of development.
Agency staff asked the city to identify which maps to prioritize for wetlands review before the March hearing. For the Newfield Street request, engineer Ron Baumanjan (Boston O'Neil) told the agency the proposal would create 3,485 square feet of direct wetland impact and 11,761 square feet of upland review area disturbance; he said the temporary access would be constructed of processed aggregate and follow an existing easement near overhead power lines. Baumanjan and staff said the applicant would supply a restoration plan for the wetland area after construction.
The agency accepted the trail application for a March 4 public hearing and voted to accept the Newfield Street application for review, instructing staff to return with relevant wetlands maps and restoration details at the next meeting.
