Plainview Public Schools board appoints programs director, approves curriculum and facility purchases

The Board of Education of Plainview Public Schools met July 13 and unanimously approved a slate of routine personnel appointments, curriculum purchases and facility projects that officials said support instruction and operations for the 2026–27 school year.
Tim Rasmussen, board president, called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. Following roll call, the board approved the agenda and moved to business items. On a motion by Chance Anderson, seconded by Caden Alexander, the board appointed Dr. Darron Arlt as the district's State and Federal Programs Director for the 2026'27 school year; the motion passed 6-0.
The board approved multiple curriculum and instructional-resource purchases: CKLA literacy materials for $22,823 (motion by Justin D. Doerr; second by Melissa Doerr); a three-year Second Step guidance curriculum contract for $8,637.30; and family and consumer sciences curriculum materials for $13,864.92. Each purchase was approved unanimously.
Board members also approved a two-year Branching Minds contract totaling $14,500 to support student interventions and a bid from Glass Edge to install a handicap entrance at the elementary school for $19,797. The board approved purchase of a 22-foot deckover tilt trailer for the CTE program at a price of $13,428.97; $7,500 of that amount will be reimbursed by a CTE grant, leaving a net outlay of $5,928.97.
All motions listed above passed on unanimous 6-0 roll call votes. The board approved consent items including minutes and financial reports, which showed a General Fund balance of $2,707,387.89 and total assets of $4,187,863.39.
Why this matters: The approved purchases and appointment allocate district resources toward literacy, social-emotional learning, career-technical education and school accessibility ahead of the next academic year. Several items include outside funding or reimbursement (the CTE trailer is partially grant-funded), and the board recorded unanimous support across routine business.
The meeting adjourned at 3:46 p.m.; the board scheduled a budget workshop for Aug. 5, 2026, and a Welcome Back Dinner on Aug. 12.
