At its July 14 meeting the St. James Parish School Board approved a slate of finance and governance items, including hiring an external auditor, certifying the legislative‑audit questionnaire, approving construction payouts and adopting student policy updates.
The board voted to engage Calder Slaven and Company LLC to perform the fiscal year 2026 external audit (fiscal year end 06/30/2026). Administration said state law requires an annual external audit; a separate resolution authorizing completion of the Louisiana Legislative Auditor compliance questionnaire was also approved.
The board approved three certificates of payment for construction projects: Pivotal LLC — $107,903.29 for the Saint James School Board public relations building renovation; Guy Hopkins Construction — $68,101.27 and $108,834.37 for Lutcher High School softball complex renovations and additions (retainage and partial punch‑list items). These payouts were moved, seconded and carried.
Administrators presented a renewal of the student accident insurance policy for 2026–27. The proposed annual premium is $80,495.95. A risk representative told the board the district’s five‑year premium payments totaled about $276,000, while claims paid over that period were about $321,000; the carrier market response showed some quotes above $100,000 and another at $150,000, and administrators said they sought the most competitive option. Board members were advised that the group coverage is optional for parents and an additional voluntary 24‑hour plan is available for purchase; the renewal motion carried.
The board also approved the updated 2026–27 student policy manual and the 2026–27 student code of conduct. Administration said the manuals were reviewed for alignment with district practice, applicable state and federal law and that legal counsel reviewed the changes; the board adopted both items by motion.
All motions recorded in the meeting were carried with aye votes and no opposition noted on the record. The meeting adjourned after routine closing business.
