Marlborough wins MAST Complete Streets grant to install beacon at Route 101 crosswalk

Town Administrator Ellen Smith told the Board of Selectmen that Marlborough has been awarded a MAST 2025 Complete Streets Grant to fund a beacon system at the crosswalk on Route 101 near Marlborough Country Convenience.
Smith said the total project cost is $55,000, of which the grant will cover $44,000. The town will provide a $5,000 cash match and staff time as an in-kind match to complete the project. The grant award was announced during the Dec. 5 meeting; board members did not take a formal vote on acceptance because the award is a grant administered by the state program.
The project will fund installation of a pedestrian beacon at the Route 101 crosswalk to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility near the convenience store. Smith did not provide a construction schedule at the meeting; staff will coordinate next steps.
