Marlborough selectmen unanimously accept three Complete Streets grants for crosswalk upgrades

The Marlborough Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Dec. 10 to accept three Complete Streets Implementation grants from the Monadnock Alliance for Sustainable Transportation (MAST) to fund crosswalk improvements at Route 101 and Ling Street, Route 124 and McKinley Circle, and Route 101 at Marlborough Country Convenience.
Town Administrator Ellen Smith told the board the total project cost is just over $178,000. Of that amount, $140,500 will come from the three MAST grants, $15,000 will be taxpayer-funded from the town's Transportation Improvement Fund held by the Trustees of the Trust Funds, and the remainder will be covered by in-kind staff time, Smith said. The public hearing on accepting the grants drew no public comment and was closed before the board took its vote.
Selectman Pitt moved to accept the grants as unanticipated revenues under NH RSA 31:95(b); Selectman Nelson seconded. The board recorded a unanimous vote to approve acceptance and deposit of the grant funds into town accounts.
The grants are designated for specific crosswalk improvements the town identified in the applications. The board did not provide a construction schedule at the meeting; Smith said project administration will include staff time as an in-kind match. The Selectmen noted that standard permitting and coordination will be followed as projects move forward.
Next steps: the town will accept the funds into the appropriate accounts and proceed with project administration and permitting. The board did not set construction dates during the meeting.
