Platte County approves 24-month extension for Jugwater Energy temporary MET station

The Platte County Planning & Zoning Commission approved a request to extend an already-installed temporary meteorological (MET) station at the Jugwater Energy Project for up to 24 more months.
Platte County planning staff noted the original temporary station had been approved by the Board of County Commissioners on 09/17/2024 with a maximum 24-month term. The applicant requested flexibility to collect additional on-site data, saying more years of data improve project planning though they sought a limit of up to two additional years.
An applicant representative described the station’s purpose: "We're looking to get solar radiance data, wind, air pressure, precipitation, etcetera," to size and price the planned solar project. The representative said weekly maintenance checks are performed to inspect equipment and that there have been no incidents reported.
Board members asked about proximity to a nearby transmission line and about any prior issues; the applicant said the station is roughly a half-mile west of the line and there have been no problems. After a motion to approve the extension was moved, seconded and put to a voice vote, the commission approved the extension with no opposition recorded.
The planner noted that when the larger solar project proceeds, any permanent MET stations or permanent facilities would require separate permitting and appropriate siting reviews.
