Community Legal Aid seeks Pittsfield‑targeted grant to keep residents housed

Carrie Love, Managing Attorney at Community Legal Aid, told the Pittsfield Human Services Advisory Council on Feb. 12 that the organization intends to use a proposed grant to expand locally targeted housing legal services.
"We are the only provider of free legal assistance for low‑income and elderly housing," Love said, adding that Community Legal Aid aims to help people remain in their homes and avoid homelessness. Love and Angelina Morisi, a housing attorney in CLA’s Berkshire County office, said CLA currently has four housing attorneys in Pittsfield and works with local partners including Upside 413, Hearthway and the Elizabeth Freeman Center.
Morisi and Love told the council the grant funds would be restricted to Pittsfield residents even though CLA’s service area covers all of Berkshire County. Love also said CLA previously received RISE Foundation support for work with people experiencing substance use issues.
The applicants did not present a proposed dollar amount in the meeting materials, and no follow‑up schedule was specified during the presentation. Council members asked clarifying questions about residency eligibility and partnerships.
