Sandwich may engage local foundation contractor as police building foundation work stalls

Rich Benton updated the Sandwich Selectmen on July 13 about delays to the police building project. He said foundation work has encountered scheduling concerns and modular delivery has been delayed by lead times for several materials.
Benton reported that East Coast Foundations (ECF), a local foundation contractor, said it could pour a foundation on short notice but had not yet provided a cost estimate. Benton asked the board to consider engaging ECF if the town’s contractor consents and if pricing is competitive. Derek Meredith told the board there would be no procurement concern if ECF provided a cost at or below the contracted company’s initial cost. The contractor is under contract with another foundation company but will follow up on options.
The board agreed to pursue engagement with the local contractor if appropriate based on pricing. No formal contract change was approved at the meeting; staff will continue to coordinate with the contractor and ECF to avoid schedule delays.
