Treasurer Angie Carter reviewed the commission’s earlier financial report beforehand, noting a May balance of $11,046.56 and recent disbursements totaling $1,500 for scholarship checks. During the fundraiser discussion the group named a local cook, referenced in the meeting as Freddie J, who would prepare meals at 226 Douglas Avenue and said he holds the required food-safety credentials.
One commissioner questioned whether $200 would be sufficient to start purchases; “I think $200 is gonna be is too low,” another member said, but the board moved forward with the $200 advance on a motion that was seconded and approved. The motion authorized creating a flyer (including a QR code or link for prepayment), allowed payments by cash or check at the event, and directed that the $200 check be made out to Nyla Williams to begin purchases. Members said any unspent funds will be returned to the commission account.
Next steps identified by the commission included finalizing a simple menu and price, confirming the precise event date once members review their calendars, and delivering the city-required contract form to city hall so the event can proceed with the parks department or other venue approval. The commission set the next regular meeting for Aug. 20, 2026, where organizers expect to report back with flyer and menu details.
