The board discussed a possible addition to the Fire Department budget to improve overnight coverage by adding Paid-On-Call hours.
Staff presented 2024 budget proposals for Police, Fire and EMS. Trustees asked about options to strengthen overnight Fire Department coverage Thursday through Sunday, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM; staff estimated adding Paid-On-Call hours for those periods would cost about $15,000 annually. The board directed staff to continue exploring details and left the item out of the draft budget for now, with no vote to add the hours at this meeting.
Trustees did not adopt the Paid-On-Call addition during the meeting; staff will return with more detailed cost and scheduling information for future consideration.
