Fire/EMS Chief Jake Flaherty presented a multi-year staffing proposal to the Village of North Fond du Lac Board of Trustees on Aug. 5 that would add five full-time positions across 2025–2029: two additional full-time EMS staff in 2025, one additional full-time position in 2028 and two more in 2029.
Flaherty told trustees the proposal is intended to reduce reliance on overtime and make scheduling sustainable as part-time recruitment becomes more difficult. To help fund the increases, Flaherty proposed raises to charges for service and per-capita fees, consistent with past practice, but the minutes do not record proposed dollar amounts or an explicit funding plan.
Trustee John Duffy asked for a simple breakdown of the cost difference between current staffing and the proposed model. Trustee Mike Will inquired about how often the City of Fond du Lac provides mutual-aid ambulance responses and how often the village responds to city calls; President Michael Streetar asked whether county-wide districting has been discussed, and Flaherty said he will consult with other chiefs and approach the county about discussing districting options.
