The Village of North Fond du Lac Board of Trustees agreed Aug. 5 to move forward with new park and welcome sign designs funded under State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) and directed staff to pursue a speed-limit change and lane reconfiguration on Prospect Avenue.
Director of Public Works Mitch Vis presented updated sign designs and two pillar concepts; Trustee Chuck Hornung recommended aluminum cabinet-style signs with faux brick, and the board agreed that Vis should finalize details. Vis also presented the Prospect Avenue Traffic Study, which staff recommends implementing a 30 mph speed limit, converting Prospect Avenue to two driving lanes with a center turn lane, and adding bike lanes on both sides.
Administrator Nick Leonard and Trustee John Duffy raised concerns about potential bicycle-traffic interactions and noted that the McKinley Street intersection may need additional work in the future, possibly including a roundabout. The board asked staff to start the speed-limit change soon and to work out lane-change details with follow-up design and implementation steps to be reported during the 2025 budget process or as part of future Public Works updates.
Minutes record the board’s direction to staff but do not specify an implementation timeline, funding breakdown for the lane reconfiguration, or a public engagement schedule.
