The Village of Denton Board of Trustees granted a conditional use permit for a retail fireworks stand at 7105 Cass Ave. after a brief public hearing on April 6, 2026. The board opened the hearing at 7:42 p.m., received public comment, closed the hearing at 7:46 p.m., and then approved the permit (motion by Doug Rosekrans; second by Amanda Fangmeier).
During the public-comment portion of the meeting, Shay Smith introduced herself as a candidate for the state legislature. Gail Braunsroth of the Denton Activities Committee (DCAC) announced a quarter-auction fundraiser on April 18 and confirmed Denton Days is scheduled for June 20. Lona Anderson asked whether DCAC could contribute funding toward an outfield track project, provided vendor contact information for playground work, and raised concerns about trash in the park, grass plantings and weeds in landscaping.
On administrative matters, Craig Vanslyke asked about the timeline and quantity of installed remote-read water meters; he also requested updates on a street dip on Cass Avenue and the condition of a tree at Lancaster and Cass. Ross Blackledge said he would inspect the tree and follow up with the striping contractor after complaints that Fall 2025 pavement markings are not wearing well.
The board approved a purchase request to buy two Criterion 21.1 cu ft refrigerators from Menards at a current price of $622.99 each for the community center kitchen (motion by Amanda Fangmeier; second by Doug Rosekrans). Trustees also approved Claims List A totaling $10,730.00 (the submitted list totaled $13,598.14 with a check to be voided), Claims List B for $4,207.83, and March net payroll of $14,589.04.
The meeting adjourned at 7:42 p.m. The Village Clerk/Treasurer Charlotte Te Brink certified the minutes and that agenda items were publicly posted as required by Nebraska law.
