Denton trustees approve claims, extend Keno contract and set fireworks budget; sewer and water rate increase tabled

At its Feb. 2 meeting the Board of Trustees approved claims totaling $29,851.12, extended a Keno contract for one year, adopted a surplus resolution for 11 hay bales, approved a $905.26 camera upgrade, authorized attendance at the NE Rural Water conference, set a $6,000 fireworks budget and tabled sewer and water rate ordinances until March 2.
The Denton Village Board on Feb. 2 approved routine business and several budget and contract items while tabling a proposed sewer and water rate increase until its March meeting.
Trustees approved Claims List A for $24,526.09, Claims List B for $5,325.03 and February net payroll of $10,832.21. The minutes record the motions as carried but do not show a roll-call tally. The board also approved a one-year extension of the Keno contract and authorized Chair Joe Hobelman to sign; the minutes list the contract term as Feb. 1, 2026 to Jan. 31, 2026 (the end date appears inconsistent with a one-year extension and may be a clerical error in the minutes).
Other approvals included adopting Resolution 2-1-26 to declare 11 large round brome hay bales surplus and offer them for sealed bid at the March 2 meeting, accepting a bid from NCS IT Support for four replacement cameras and software at $905.26, and approving Ross Blackledge's attendance at the Nebraska Rural Water Annual Conference March 9—1, 2026. Trustees also set a $6,000 budget for the July 4 fireworks show and asked Midwest Firework to provide the display on July 3 or 4.
Trustee Amanda Fangmeier moved and Trustee Trent Wheatley seconded to table the proposed sewer and water rate increases and Ordinances 26-1-1 and 26-1-2 until March 2, 2026; the motion carried. The board tabled consideration of ingress/egress easements for 9505 W. Denton and recorded that attorney fees related to the Linda's Retirement Subdivision lagoon agreement and easement work will be billed to the subdivision.
The meeting concluded with adjournment; the clerk certified the minutes.
