Thomasville council holds organizational meeting; approves 2026 schedule 6-1

Judge April C. Wood administered individual oaths to Mayor Raleigh York Jr. and to council members Doug Hunt, Dana Lomba, Ericka Sanders and Hunter Thrift. City Manager Brandt congratulated the newly sworn officials and urged them to carry out their duties on behalf of the city. "You are now lawmakers of the community. You have pledged to carry out your duties as Mayor and Council on behalf of the city," Brandt said. He added a pledge on behalf of staff: "We will do our best to uphold the Thomasville core values of innovative growth; quality, effective service; diversity, equity and equality; and honesty and integrity within the organization. As staff, we will strive to support the actions of City Council, fulfilling your mission to provide quality services to the citizens of Thomasville, while meeting your vision of building a better Thomasville together. We look forward to the shared challenges and future success of the city we strive to serve."
On the meeting's business agenda, Council Member Hunter Thrift moved to approve the 2026 meeting and Mayor Pro Tem schedule; Mayor Pro Tem Doug Hunt seconded. The motion carried 6-1, with Council Member JacQuez Johnson recorded as the lone vote against the schedule.
Mayor Raleigh York Jr. then appointed council members to subcommittees and advisory boards for the coming term, as recorded in the minutes. The transcript provided does not specify the individual committee assignments in the meeting text.
