Council honors NextGen youth workforce participants, highlights program impact

The Baldwin Park City Council presented certificates July 15 to participants in the 2026 NextGen youth workforce program and recognized Managed Career Solutions (MCS) for operating the East San Gabriel Valley America's Job Center partnership.
Council member Alejandra Avila, who led the presentation, described NextGen as a flagship youth initiative that began in 2022 to provide 14– to 18‑year‑olds with on‑the‑job experience, professional development and summer income. Avila recounted year‑by‑year participation: 181 students in 2022, 154 in 2023, 70 in 2024, 72 in 2025, and 43 so far in 2026 (a cumulative total of 520 participants), and said the program has helped some participants transition into city employment.
The council and school‑district staff thanked students, school partners, and program administrators; the mayor and council presented certificates and invited a photo with MCS staff. Mayor Pro Tem Jean Amayala read a formal recognition of MCS’s partnership and commitment to the program.
Council members emphasized the program’s role in youth development and career readiness and encouraged continued partnership to grow participation.
