Bonner Springs — Council member Roger Shannon told colleagues he would step down from the council president position, and the council elected Danny Gurley to fill the role.
Shannon said he enjoyed serving but did not feel he wanted to continue in the president role, citing personal considerations if the mayor’s office needed to be assumed suddenly: "...I just didn't feel that ... it really wasn't in my wheelhouse," he said. Council member Blanks nominated Gurley and the nomination was seconded; council voted to elect Gurley, with Gurley abstaining and the motion passing.
Council members offered congratulations to both Shannon for his service as president and to Gurley on the new role. The vote will change internal leadership assignments and the council will proceed with the regularly scheduled reports and adjournment.
No changes to mayoral office were made; this was an internal council leadership change.
