Bonner Springs council approves pool repainting, park shelter, playground and Lenexa trips agreement

Bonner Springs — At its meeting the City Council approved several procurement and service items for parks and recreation and authorized an intergovernmental agreement with Lenexa.
Recreation director Justine Spies presented three items: a recommendation to accept the lowest bid for repainting the municipal pool shell, a cooperative purchase of a park shelter for Center Park, and purchase of a North Park playground selected via a community vote.
The council voted to accept the pool painting bid from Deco Painting Incorporated for $69,500. Spies said eight bids were received and that Deco was the lowest responsive bidder with experience on nearby projects. "They were the lowest bid, and I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have," Spies said.
Council then approved a purchase from ICON Shelter Systems for a Center Park shelter for $45,277.90 through the HGAC Buy cooperative, and authorized staff to prepare the installation bid packet. Spies said the cooperative purchase yields a roughly 10% discount.
On the North Park playground, Spies said 161 respondents to an online poll favored a 'natural landscape' design. Council approved purchase of the Natural Landscapes playground from Fry and Associates, with an amount not to exceed $275,000 to allow for additional benches and features. Spies said the vendor and staff expect installation by summer.
Separately, the council authorized the mayor to sign an intergovernmental services agreement with Lenexa to continue joint trips and programming that benefit residents, particularly seniors.
All recommended motions passed on recorded votes.
