Bonner Springs — The City Council adopted an ordinance amending the comprehensive plan’s future land‑use map to change a parcel in the Destination KCK area near 118th and State Avenue from industrial back to mixed use.
Community development director Mark Lee said the map amendment is one of several steps toward development at the Mattel corner and that the property lacks utilities, which will require extensions of sanitary sewer, water and electrical service. Lee said necessary agreements will be put in place with the unified government for utilities similar to prior projects in the area.
Council discussion touched on timing and next steps: Lee said a formal rezoning hearing is scheduled for March, and if the planning commission recommends approval the council could see the rezoning in April. Council members asked about site designs and were told some concept work has already begun.
The council voted to approve the map amendment. Vote tally was recorded by roll call and the motion passed.
