After closed session, Haysi council cancels mayor's fuel and credit cards and tightens payment rules

Council Member Debbie Wood moved and Carter Branham seconded a motion to cancel the Wright Express fuel card issued to Mayor Larry D. Yates; the motion passed unanimously. Wood then moved and Susan Tiller seconded cancellation of a Truist credit card issued to Mayor Yates; that motion also passed unanimously. Separately, the council adopted a motion that "all town payments for town employees, Council Members, and the Mayor will not deviate from the schedules in place and there no cash advances will be allowed," a rule the council carried by unanimous vote.
The minutes state Clerk Amanda Perrigan will try to resolve mismatches in names assigned to fuel cards (the minutes noted a long-unused employee name still on a card). The council did not record further explanation of the executive-session subject in the public minutes beyond the legal citation (Virginia Code Section 2.2-3711(A)(8)).
