Education Committee approves multiple program reapprovals and curriculum updates including KU and Rasmussen changes

The Board of Nursing’s Education Committee approved a series of reapprovals, initial approvals and major curriculum changes affecting nursing programs across the state.
Site-visit approvals: The committee accepted follow-up site-visit reports and approved five-year reapprovals for Allied Health Career Training’s PN program and Salina Area Technical College’s PN and ABN programs. Newman University’s doctor of nurse anesthesia practice program was recommended for reapproval with conditions to address COA noncompliance standards; the committee voted to accept that reapproval recommendation.
Curriculum changes: The University of Kansas School of Nursing presented a comprehensive curriculum redesign to align undergraduate and graduate programs with the 2021 AACN Essentials and to adopt competency-based education. The committee approved the KU proposals, which included updates to the BSN curriculum, a new direct-entry master’s pre-licensure model, DNP revisions and multiple post-master certificate adjustments.
Rasmussen University requested an increase in ADN admission seats on its two campuses (from a combined 64 to 79 students per term shared between Topeka and Overland Park). After discussion of clinical sites, faculty capacity and outcomes, the committee approved the increase starting in January 2026.
Other approvals: WSU Tech received initial approval for an LMHT program with a follow-up visit scheduled for spring 2027; MidAmerica Nazarene University, Cloud County Community College and several post-master certificates at KU were approved for curricular alignment and clinical-hour adjustments.
Votes were taken by voice on each motion; committee chair and staff confirmed motions carried. The committee also accepted an annual nursing-education report summarizing statewide indicators (program age, simulation use, on-time graduation rates and NCLEX pass rates) and discussed improvements to the NCSBN core-data submission process.
Next steps: Institutions approved with recommendations must supply the requested updates and comply with any follow-up site visits or reporting deadlines noted in the staff recommendations. The committee asked staff to monitor outcomes and return with follow-up information as required.
