Residents and council members raised concerns about heavy truck traffic near Old Dominion and the stretch of Kansas Avenue by Walgreens and the coffee shop, saying trucks were "beating it up pretty pretty good."
Staff explained the limitation: "If we put up no truck signs, then trucks can't deliver to the other locations either," and noted trucks are supposed to use the shortest route to their destination. The staff member said the city can "encourage" truckers to avoid the road but cannot outright prevent deliveries to businesses on that route.
Council members suggested a compromise, such as placing a sign just beyond the coffee shop to discourage through truck traffic while allowing local deliveries. Staff said they would research whether such a sign could be considered enforcement against through traffic or allowed as local-only guidance.
Why it matters: Speakers said the road surface is being damaged and that businesses including Sherwin-Williams, Goodwill and Advance Auto Parts rely on truck deliveries, so any restriction must balance road preservation and access to commerce.
Next steps: Staff said they would look into options and past conversations on the topic but made no immediate changes at the meeting.
