Buckhannon council reconsiders zoning-permit expansion and tables the measure

Councilmember Jack Reger brought forward a motion Sept. 4 to reconsider a prior council decision that would require zoning permits for all projects — specifically including window replacement, interior remodeling and landscaping. City Attorney Tom O’Neill explained the parliamentary steps needed to reopen the earlier action; Reger and David Thomas then moved to reconsider and, after discussion, to table further action to develop a more equitable approach.
Council debated the impacts and fairness of a blanket permitting requirement; several members urged additional study and suggested alternatives to ensure compliance without undue burden on homeowners. The council voted unanimously to reconsider the prior motion and to table further action pending further review and recommended changes.
