At its Aug. 21 meeting, the Buckhannon City Council approved several funding and partnership items recommended by the Revenue & Review Committee.
Council approved a regional joint marketing partnership with the City of Elkins and the West Virginia Division of Tourism for out-of-area promotions, authorizing up to $6,000 for Buckhannon's share. The Revenue & Review Committee met Aug. 19 and reported a 50/50 match proposal following discussions with Elkins.
The council also approved a $2,500 allowance to upgrade IT equipment for the Upshur County Convention and Visitors Bureau and a separate $25,000 investment with the Upshur County Development Authority to provide grants to small-business start-ups. The council voted to approve the conceptual investment and instructed staff to pursue additional research and terms.
Earlier in the meeting, Tammy Reger of the Buckhannon-Upshur Chamber of Commerce asked the council to reconsider a previous funding request for Leadership Upshur. Reger presented reorganized program materials and requested $2,500 as a title sponsor; Reger and Thomas moved the chamber request and the motion carried with Recorder Randy Sanders abstaining because he disclosed he serves on the Chamber's Board of Directors.
The council's actions were taken by recorded motions during new-business consideration; specific committee recommendations and motions were entered into the minutes.
