Deborah Kovacs, co‑chair of the Dalton Historical Commission, asked the Select Board to adopt a Purple Heart Community proclamation to formally recognize and honor Purple Heart recipients in town. The board read a draft proclamation aloud and unanimously approved it, directing staff to prepare paperwork and signage to publicize the designation.
Kovacs also requested the formation of a 250th‑anniversary planning committee to begin long‑term planning. The board agreed to solicit nominations for a committee that would include historical commission representation, members from the business community and schools, and other residents. Staff will post solicitations on the town website and present a candidate list at the September meeting.
The board’s actions were unanimous on the proclamation and advisory on the anniversary committee structure; the committee formation will return to a future agenda for finalization.
