Centura board narrows scope of facilities bond, sets special meeting and community sessions

The Centura Public Schools Board of Education met Feb. 20, 2026 in a work session at Centura High School to refine the scope and wording of a proposed facilities bond and to plan public outreach ahead of a vote.
Board President Sandra Davis led the meeting and noted the district’s public notices and Nebraska Open Meetings Act information were on display. The board reviewed renderings and discussed components of a proposed fitness classroom/center and whether those components would meet ADA compliance standards.
Board members said the intent is to narrow the bond proposal so the board can vote on precise bond language at a special meeting scheduled for Feb. 25, 2026. The board also scheduled community informational meetings for March 30, 2026 with April 1, 2026 as an alternate date if weather prevents March sessions. The March/April sessions will be held as board work sessions with times to be set for meetings in Boelus, Cairo and Dannebrog to explain the scope and estimated costs of the proposed facility improvements.
During routine business the board approved the meeting agenda and later adjourned. Mark Johnson moved to approve the agenda and Brooke Schmitt seconded; the motion passed unanimously, with all six board members voting yea. At the end of the work session, Teresa Grabowski moved to adjourn and Mark Johnson seconded; the board adjourned at 9:36 AM by unanimous vote.
No community members signed in to speak during the public comment portion of the work session. The board framed the bond discussion around district priorities summarized in the Centura vision and mission statements, which the board read during the session.
The next formal step is the special board meeting on Feb. 25, when the board said it will consider final bond wording and any resolution needed to place a bond question before voters. Community meetings are planned so residents can review renderings, cost estimates and the proposed scope before that vote.
