Resident urges action on human trafficking and requests records after alleged officer misconduct

At the start of the July 14 meeting a resident identified as Mr. McDaniel used public comment to raise three items: he asked the city to make packet items such as Dumas Bay visible on future agendas, urged enforcement in response to human trafficking concerns and said he will file a public records request about an online allegation concerning a city officer.

Mr. McDaniel told the committee he reviewed the meeting packet and noticed a Dumas Bay item in materials but not on the agenda and asked that such items be added to future agendas so the public can be informed. He also said the council recently passed a massage ordinance aimed at reducing human trafficking and asked what the city—s plan is, saying, "if we truly have between 30 and 60, prostitution locations around here" he wants arrests and enforcement so activity does not simply move to another city.

Mr. McDaniel also described online posts alleging that a city officer resigned in lieu of termination for having sex with a domestic-violence victim; he said he will submit a public records request to verify the claim and asked that, if true, the officer be terminated rather than allowed to resign. "I'm gonna request a public records request on that to get more information on that," he told the committee.

Committee members acknowledged his comments but did not take formal action during the meeting. The allegations about officer misconduct were raised by a private commenter and were not verified on the record; Mr. McDaniel said he will pursue a records request. The committee did not announce any immediate investigation or staff report during the session.
