Stanton Community Schools board calls special election on bond proposition, approves property sales and calendar

STANTON, Neb. — The Stanton Community Schools Board of Education on Feb. 9 adopted a resolution calling a special election on a proposition to issue general obligation bonds for the district, and approved several routine items including the sale of two district-owned properties and the 2026-27 school calendar.
The board voted unanimously to adopt the resolution calling for a special election regarding a proposition to issue general obligation bonds for Stanton County School District 0003. Board member David Morfeld made the motion, and Amanda Tomasek seconded; all six members present voted in favor (Rob Hupp; David Morfeld; Amanda Tomasek; John Mandl, president; Brian Wehner; and Shad Pohlman). The minutes record the motion and a carried vote; the resolution text is on file in the superintendent’s office.
Also during the meeting the board approved accepting two sealed bids from Bob Kuehn for district-owned property: $501 for 706 6th Street and $1,501 for 702 6th Street, with approval subject to the terms of the bid packets. The motion to accept both bids was made by David Morfeld and seconded by Amanda Tomasek, and carried with all members present voting in favor.
In personnel and recognition items, the board accepted the resignation of staff member Cindy Stange (motion by Brian Wehner, seconded by Rob Hupp) and unanimously approved a motion congratulating student RJ Padilla for selection to the NSBA 8th Grade All-State Band alongside his sponsor, Zach Nathan (motion by Shad Pohlman, seconded by Brian Wehner).
The board approved the second reading of board policies #3131 and #3132 (motion by Rob Hupp, seconded by Brian Wehner) and adopted the 2026-2027 school calendar (motion by Rob Hupp, seconded by Brian Wehner). The board also voted to renew its membership in the Nebraska Association of School Boards for 2026-27 (motion by Amanda Tomasek, seconded by Brian Wehner).
Financial business included Superintendent Darren Soucie’s review of monthly bills and reports; the board moved to approve payment of District #3 bills presented at the meeting and to accept the activity account, treasurer’s, account summary and revenue reports (motion by Rob Hupp, seconded by Brian Wehner). The minutes include the full vendor payment list and payroll totals as part of the official record.
The board set its next regular meeting for March 16, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. in the High/Middle School Library. The meeting adjourned at 8:06 p.m.
