Dodge County commissioners approve 2025 rollback millage, contracts and equipment purchases

The Dodge County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 2 approved a series of budget and contract items, accepting the proposed 2025 rollback millage rate and awarding multiple bids and purchases that county officials said are needed for operations.
Commissioner Brian Watkins moved to accept the proposed rollback millage rate for 2025; Commissioner Sharon Cobb Flanagan seconded and all voted in favor. The board had earlier approved the accounts payable report totaling $86,872.39 after a motion from Commissioner Jeffrey Jones and a second from Commissioner Brian Watkins.
The board awarded a contract for roof repairs at the Dodge County Recreation Department to Graham and Studstill for $81,000 (motion by Commissioner Sharon Cobb Flanagan; second by Commissioner Jeffrey Jones). The board also approved the Fire Department’s request to purchase two used trucks—a 2003 Kenworth commercial pumper for $65,000 and a 2006 Chevrolet 4x4 rescue/pumper for $60,000—with funding split so that 60% comes from the county equipment SPLOST and 40% from fire SPLOST (motion by Commissioner Brian Watkins; second by Commissioner Leigh Ann Greene).
County Manager Conner Bearden presented bids for a fuel monitoring system. The board accepted Walthall’s bid for a new system at $11,236.60 (motion by Commissioner Jeffrey Jones; second by Commissioner Brian Watkins). Manager Bearden also presented the county extension contract; he said the only change was designation of IT service to be provided by UGA Extension. Commissioner Brian Watkins moved to approve the contract and Commissioner Leigh Ann Greene seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
All votes reported in the minutes were unanimous among the commissioners present (Chairman Dan McCranie; Commissioners Sharon Cobb Flanagan, Leigh Ann Greene, Brian Watkins and Jeffrey Jones). No separate roll-call tallies were recorded in the minutes beyond the notation that “all voted in favor.”
The board set several upcoming meetings: a Sawmill Junction public hearing for Sept. 16 at 4:00 p.m., a work session on Sept. 9 at 8:00 a.m., and a budget work session on Oct. 29 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting went into executive session to discuss legal matters at 7:22 p.m. and reconvened at 7:59 p.m., adjourning at 8:02 p.m.
