Kingman Clean City Commission sets Sept. 12 as fall cleanup, coordinates with county day of caring

The City of Kingman Clean City Commission voted to make Sept. 12 its fall cleanup day and said the effort will focus on the commission’s regular Route 66 stretch. Staff member Tim told commissioners, "September 12 is when we're gonna do our day of caring," and recommended aligning the commission’s cleanup with that countywide event.

The vote followed a staff presentation of the commission calendar and a discussion of other seasonal efforts, including a wreath pickup cleanup scheduled for the first week of January. Commissioners debated timing around other local events before approving the Sept. 12 date by voice vote.

Tim also updated the commission on Mohave County’s hazardous-waste collection program. He said the county has not set a fall date and is searching for a lower-cost vendor after a costly vendor provided services in April; Mohave County is tentatively considering November. Commissioners asked whether residents know which items (tires, batteries, paint) are accepted; Tim said the county, vendor and city staff work together to sort items and that the April event "was one of the biggest that they've had."

Commissioners confirmed the cleanup will cover the Route 66 section from the public works department to the Flying J station on both sides of the highway. Staff said how far the commission gets on the route will depend on volunteer turnout. The commission directed staff to secure the date and bring further details back at the next meeting.

The commission also discussed modest outreach steps — emails, the city app, and digital billboards — and planned to provide a fuller volunteer and event plan at the next regular meeting.
