Silver Creek approves claims and payroll direct deposit; flags vendor email scam and seeks IT quotes

At its Sept. 3 meeting the Silver Creek Township Board approved the list of claims and disbursements and approved payroll by direct deposit; both motions were moved by Vice Chairman Brandon Geyen, seconded by Ryan Nelson and carried 4-0.
The clerk reported a vendor impersonation attempt: the township received an email that appeared to be from Thielen Excavating requesting a wire transfer. After checking records and contacting Thielen Excavating, the clerk determined the email was a scam and confirmed there were no outstanding invoices with the vendor.
The board reviewed a vendor quote for a new office computer and asked the clerk to obtain a second quote. Supervisor Geyen recommended that laptops for supervisors be included in the procurement options. The board also noted it will discuss proposed projects and the budget at its Oct. 1, 2024 meeting.
No budget amounts or vendor invoice numbers are recorded in the minutes; the clerk will follow up on procurement and supply additional quotes before the board takes further action.
