Silver Creek supervisors approve loader repairs, outline budget carryovers and hire clerk

Supervisor Mike Helman provided a budget update Aug. 6, telling the board he expects to carry over about $160,000 for the General Fund and $600,000 for the Road & Bridge Fund and proposing creation of an equipment fund to avoid future borrowing.
The board approved a motion by Supervisor Brandon Geyen, seconded by Supervisor Sandy Forsman, to spend up to $4,500 on needed loader repairs; the motion passed 4-0. Meeting minutes note the township’s new hire is receiving training on the grader and that there will be some expense for loader repairs.
The board approved hiring a candidate for the Clerk/Treasurer position at $27 per hour with a six-month review and a possible increase to $28 per hour pending a positive performance review (motion by Geyen, second by Forsman, carried 4-0). The minutes record that Chairman Chris Newman will handle paperwork for a culvert replacement grant. Cleanup day expenses were $6,293.63 and income was $7,333.00. The board set a road tour for Aug. 20 at 8 a.m. and will schedule a budget workshop toward the end of September.
