Township places property owner on notice over long-running junk complaint

Silver Creek Township supervisors voted Aug. 6 to start a formal notice process for a long-standing junk/nuisance complaint at 3864 150th St NW.
Property owner John Haack appeared at the meeting and discussed steps he will take to make repairs and clean the property. Vice Chairman Mike Helman provided Mr. Haack with the county ordinance that the township said must be followed. The board told Mr. Haack that items removed from his Maple Lake property cannot be left outdoors at the Silver Creek parcel and emphasized that the site must be returned to the condition required when the township last took action in 2013–2014.
Vice Chairman Helman moved that Silver Creek Township start the process of issuing a notice to Mr. Haack outlining the violations and require him to report at the board’s Sept. 3, 2024 meeting with an update; Supervisor Ryan Nelson seconded the motion and it carried 4-0. The board encouraged Mr. Haack to complete as much work as he can before that date and said the board will discuss timelines and remaining work at the September meeting.
