Commission approves 50 Pritchard Street rear addition with staff determinations

The Historic Preservation Commission voted Jan. 8 to approve a Certificate of Appropriateness for a rear addition and front porch change at 50 Pritchard Street, granting staff’s recommended determinations on roof materials and window configuration.
Ansley Manuel, the architect for the project, told the commission the proposed first‑story metal roof and transitions to existing asphalt shingles would be visible but appropriate where the roofs terminate at walls. Manuel said the center window in a three‑unit group would be sash‑set with two operable side windows, and that if required the center unit could be made operable without changing the overall appearance. Several commissioners said they had no objection to the hybrid roof material on the lower porch and to the approach to the three‑panel windows. One commissioner noted the existing house’s varied shutter pattern and said keeping the shutters as a colorful accent was acceptable.
The commission moved to approve staff recommendations and made the requested determinations on the metal porch roof, the fixed center window condition and the shutters. The motion carried on an affirmative voice vote.
What happens next: Staff will note the commission’s determinations in the COFA, and the applicant may proceed subject to any conditions recorded in the approval.
