Matthew Harris sworn in as commissioner; planning commission hears conference, UDOT and project updates

Matthew Harris took the oath of office and introduced himself at the start of the Saratoga Springs Planning Commission meeting on July 16, saying he joined the commission after neighborhood conversations prompted him to apply. "I'm glad to be here and hopefully that the existing council will be patient with me as I learn," Harris said after being sworn in.
During commissioner comments, Commissioner Hill reminded members about the American Planning Association Utah fall conference (preregistration open) and previewed a planned August 27 presentation and tour with the Utah Department of Transportation on state transportation priorities. He also previewed an October visit and presentation from Larry H. Miller’s real estate group connected to a local development project.
In the director’s report staff updates included that planner Tippy is on parental leave (expected return late September) and that David Jelen will provide coverage; staff noted July 7 City Council approvals for Jacob Ranch Marketplace Lots 7 and 8 and that the commission’s next meeting is scheduled for July 30. The director reported no need for a closed session and the meeting adjourned.
