Commission recommends approval for 200‑sq‑ft fiber shelter at UCCU property

The Saratoga Springs Planning Commission on July 16 recommended approval of a site‑plan amendment to place a roughly 200‑square‑foot, non‑occupied fiber equipment shelter on the Utah County Credit Union property at 1364 North Commerce Drive.
Planner Sam Stout described the proposal as a non‑occupied private utility building that meets the code provisions for private utility structures (19.05). He said the shelter will be located in an existing landscaped area on the southeast corner of the property, will be finished in an earth‑tone color and will remain outside the public utility easement.
Weston Reymond, representing the applicant and identifying himself as with Strata Networks, said the shelter would be a permanent prebuilt structure that would be craned into place and anchored on a concrete foundation. "It will be permanent... it is a prebuilt building, and we will crane it in, and it will be anchored onto a concrete foundation," Reymond said.
Commissioner Hill said he knew the site and expected the shelter to blend in and not be troublesome for the neighborhood if the color and siting conditions are met. There were no public comments on the item.
Commissioner Mann moved to forward a recommendation for approval with the findings and conditions in the staff report; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. Staff will include conditions on color and siting in the recommendation to City Council.
