Transportation Commission unanimously approves revised 2027–28 project slate after budget and bike-priority adjustments

Commissioners voted unanimously to accept a revised slate of 2027 and 2028 street projects after staff presented changes to keep the program within budget and to allow additional design time on two unusually wide streets on the bicycle-priority network.
Staff proposed postponing one wide Aster (Astor) street project to allow a year for design options to satisfy the bicycle-priority network and to move Gordon Crestline to an earlier year to balance the budget. District 3’s large chip-seal bundle was split into two projects across 2027 and 2028 to reduce neighborhood disruption and better match construction logistics.
A commissioner moved to accept the revisions as presented and the motion was seconded. The roll-call vote recorded all present commissioners voting yes; President Shipley and Commissioner Julia were absent. Staff said the slate will be treated as the proposed 2027 list and returned next year if design or utility issues require adjustments.
The commission also discussed how rebuild projects differ from grind-and-overlay and chip-seal options, with the streets director warning that full rebuilds can cost three to five times as much as overlays and therefore consume much more of any expanded fund.
The approved revisions set the 2027 and 2028 slate while staff continues design work on the Aster/Astor corridor and will present any necessary changes next year.
